Lots of choices in the area around Pike Place Market - much depends on what you are looking for.

For the view and a simple lunch, I like Lowell's. It's a cafeteria style lunchroom with one of the best views in town.

For finer dining, Place Pigalle (in the market, take the walkway between the flying fish guys and the meat market right under the Market sign and behind the bronze pig statue) is great.

Matt's in the market is fantastic and romantic - but it's very small, can have a limited menu (based on seasonal ingredients), so if you like lots of choice this may not be the one for you.

Chez Shea - is also a great choice for a romantic dinner .

Just a couple of blocks north of the market on 1st avenue is the Queen City Grill, which is another favorite of mine. If they happen to have fresh pan seared razor clams, don't miss the opportunity to try them!

For another quick lunch choice, I love the doner kebab sandwiches at "Turkish Delight", on the north end of Pike Place. They also have great baklava for dessert or a snack.

Le Panier

French bakery: Bread, Croissants, Coffee

Early morning aromas wafting onto the sidewalk outside ... a cozy venue for buttery croissants--almond, chocolate, raspberry, brioche--and a cafe de maison. Enjoy a delicious baguette sandwich for lunch. Take home a crisp baguette or wholesome grain bread. For a lovely dessert, choose from classic chocolate eclairs, beautiful fruit tartes, or our widely popular macaroons. All this and more baked fresh daily with the finest ingredients at Le Panier.

Location: At the corner of Stewart Street & Pike Place

Hours: Mon - Sat 7 am - 6 pm; Sunday 8 am - 5 pm

and my favorite....

I tend to graze as I go through the market myself, but there are lots of great restaurants so it depends on what type of food you like and your price range. Probably one of the most interesting restaurants is the Pink Door. It is mostly Italian food, but is also full of surprises. Just finding the entrance is an adventure - it is on Post Alley - just a pink door without a sign. Here is a link with more information and ideas: http://www.squidoo.com/Seattle-Pike-Place-Market

I like the Pike Place Bar & Grill for breakfasts (all you can eat Belgian Waffles) and lunches (great sandwiches). It overlooks the market and I always take visiting friends and family there.

My favorite restaurant in all of Seattle is Matt's in Market, across the street and up a staircase in an unlikely-seeming place. It's TINY - make a reservation - and try to sit at the counter if you can, the chefs will appreciate this and chat you up. Amazing, incredible, awesome food, and worth flying to Seattle for. Good desserts too!
