Metro Transit. I use it daily and it is one of the best transit systems in the nation. Do a Google Search for "King County Metro Transit" and you'll find a link to their home page. Schedules and route planning are available on-line.

It will, of course, depend on where in the city you live, work, and/or go to school. Take a look at the bus routes and plan from there. We lived in Magnolia/Queen Anne area for about fifteen years and no matter where we wanted to go, we had to go downtown and transfer. It worked great when I worked downtown. I also walked quite frequently since many places that I needed to go were nearby. It's easy to get around from the U District to most of the city as well.

The buses do run frequently and though I didn't drive much for years was able to get around fairly easily.
