Ok can someone please explain to me that when the speed limit says 60 people drive 50, or if its 40, they drive 30 & when it rains, they decide they want to drive 30 on the freeway.

Do you know what makes me mad/??? Is like today on 18 there was a head on collision....All lanes but far left were blocked and traffic was routed to that far left lane, why is it nobody wants anyone to merge? They have to! And if they do not its not loke they will gain any time...maybe like 2 seconds! As far as the HOV lanes, I did not know that...Is it marked on the new signs they put up or is that how it has always been? Good to know thanks, I will not be one of those jerks anymore lol

The majority of the major roads are at and beyond capacity. Going 60 MPH bumper to bumper in the rain (roads are slicker in the rain) is stupid and even suicidal.
Why not add lanes? Look closer at I-5 through DT Seattle. They have no room to expand. I-405 has a 30 year plan to expand but that's still far off. The design for that requires many phases so there's not a realistic way to speed it up.
Why didn't they plan for population growth to begin with? They did. The cities took a good guess at the growth rate and missed the mark by a laughable amount. Everything is designed off that laughable amount. Had they guessed the rate it did grow at, people would have called them crazy.

Man, I feel your pain. There are a lot of really bad drivers in Seattle.
I have no ideas why Seattle has so many cranky, old, self righteous drivers who want to teach you exactly what the speed limit is.
Maybe it is old school Seattle trying to teach all those out of state newcomers "the Seattle way"
Maybe it's the whole self conscious Seattle thing: you know; that not wanting to seem aggressive, obnoxious or unfriendly in any way. People are really hung up on appearing "nice" in Seattle; even if leads to such passive aggressive behavior as driving under the speed limit in the left hand lane and the Seattle Freeze.
Bad driving is part of what makes Seattle weird. (and not weird in a good way, either)

i see more speeding than too slow- we have a meter at the top of the hill near where I live to slow people down and reads out 45-50 in a 30 mph zone than often than those going under 35
speed limit means just that - the Highest speed legally allowed
conditions of the road and traffic flow will affect that.
nothing like getting your car splash over with rain water from the previous car hitting the puddle at top speed

Tyler Durden is completely right....
I am born and raise in Cali... Lived out in Seattle for 4 years and everyone goes the speed limit.... if not slower... It would annoy me so much going 60 on the fast lane where in Califonia everyone is going 70+ on the slow lane.. LOL

I always wonder the same thing. The best is when a few snow flakes fall from the sky and people ABANDON THEIR CARS on the side of 520.
Insane.
Seattle is the only place I've ever lived where not only do people obey the speed limit, but they regularly drive below the speed limit. In NY, it was always just a way of life to drive at least 15-20mph over.

I don't know what roads you're speaking about, but my experience is that everyone speeds in Seattle, even in the rain. Their worst offenses is that they do not know how to merge and thus cut freeway drivers off, do not use directional signals, and will actually speed up to prevent someone from changing into their lane in front of them.
The worst "drivers" are the bicycle riders, who are notorious for ignoring rules of the road, especially STOP signs and signals.

because people in seattle still dont understand how to drive in the rain even though most have lived here in the rain all of their lives. I dont get it either and it drives me insane which is why I moved to the eastside its better here
